The China Machinery Industry Federation (CMIF), a national industrial authority overseeing mechanical vocational certification, recently awarded Level 4 Intermediate Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing) Technology Specialist certificates to the first batches of trainees at the China-Ethiopia Excellence Engineering Center (CEE), a joint training hub under Ethiopia's Ministry of Labour and Skills.

The certification formally validates local workers'full-cycle 3D printing competencies, from digital design and machine operation to post-processing of printed components.

Multi-Phase Cooperation Laid Groundwork for Local Training

The cross-border technical partnership traces back to December 2024, when Chinese and Ethiopian officials signed a formal memorandum of understanding in Chongqing, China, launching a dedicated Belt and Road talent evaluation project focused on advanced 3D printing technology. Parallel to the signing ceremony, China delivered 10 professional industrial 3D printing machines to Ethiopian authorities, supplying the critical hardware required to launch hands-on domestic training programs.

Localized Training Launches in Addis Ababa, Produces Skilled Workforce

Equipped with donated industrial equipment and homegrown certified trainers, the CEE center rolled out its first fully domestic additive manufacturing training course in March 2026. The hybrid program blends classroom theoretical learning with daily machine-based practical drills, covering every stage of additive manufacturing production.

Trainees undergo rigorous assessments upon course completion; only candidates passing all technical evaluations receive the CMIF cross-border vocational qualification certificate, accepted under the bilateral skills recognition framework.
